Sediment Erosion From Developments Flowing Into Falls Lake NC - July 2022

This video shows what occurred in the Falls Lake watershed from Friday July 8th through Wednesday July 13th. A tale told in three parts, there is footage from before a significant amount of rainfall, the effects observed on the day after the rain, and a followup study conducted a few days later. That's right—water samples were collected by the Neuse Riverkeeper and tested before and after the rain to determine how high the levels of turbidity are in Lick Creek. Spoiler alert—these are already extremely turbid waters!

With several more proposed high-density developments on the way, will the cities of Durham and Raleigh wake up to this issue and put a stop to unsustainable development practices such as the mass grading and clear-cutting that are being used in developments in Southeast Durham County? Or will profits continue being prioritized over people and the environment?
